Longtime ABS-CBN newser Henry Omaga-Diaz co-anchored TV Patrol for one final time on Friday, ending his more than three-decade run at the Kapamilya Network.

Omaga-Diaz revealed on Friday morning that he would be moving to Canada to join his family, who migrated there years ago.

“‘Oo, next year, uuwi na ko,’ palagi next year…. Matagal na kong nangako, ‘Oo, sasamahan kita diyan.’ Ngayon, tutuparin ko na ‘yung pangako ko sa kanya,” he said during a Radyo 630 broadcast.

On Friday’s TVP broadcast, Omaga-Diaz thanked his co-anchors and network colleagues for the send-off, saying he would miss all of them.

“Ever since, dito sa…lalong-lalo na sa newsroom, grabe po ang naging suporta lalo na ng aking mga kasamahan sa newsroom, hanggang sa pag-edit ng script, ng video, kahit na noong nagpaPatrol na ako, ‘yung kanilang mga mensahe,” he said.

“Actually, pinapakita [nila] ‘yung kanilang pagmamahal. ‘Yun ang pinakamagandang feeling eh. ‘Yung mga kasamahan, ‘yung mga origs, nakikita mo mismo ‘yung pagmamahal nila,” he added.

Omaga-Diaz, now 63, began his career in news as a radio reporter at DZMM in 1991. He later transitioned to TV, where he covered significant news events such as the eruption of Mount Pinatubo and the release of OFW Angelo Dela Cruz, who was held hostage in Iraq, among others.

Known for his investigative pieces on ABS-CBN newscasts, Omaga-Diaz also hosted programs such as Hoy Gising!, Magandang Gabi Bayan, and XXX: Exklusibong, Explosibong, Exposé.

Prior to returning to the TVP anchor chair during the pandemic year of 2020, he initially co-anchored the newscast in 2001 and, years later, its weekend edition.

In 2006, he was transferred to the now-defunct late-night newscast Bandila, co-anchoring it alongside Ces Orena-Drilon.

On radio, he was among the pillars of DZMM, anchoring programs such as Omaga-Diaz Reports, Pasada Sais Trenta, and most recently HOD: Headline of the Day.
