14 Filipino journalists selected for One Health reporting initiative
The project aims to enhance journalists’ skills in reporting on health issues.
Fourteen local journalists were selected as grant recipients during the launch of the Media for One Health project, held at the New World Hotel in Makati last September 9 to 13. The project is spearheaded by Canal France International (CFI), a French media development agency.
Among the recipients are Jove Francisco, Yeddha Pascual, and Francis Orcio of Cignal TV, along with Gladyline Alvero, Rizza Mendiola-Fillone, Joy Guray and Marie Ann Saballegue of GMA Public Affairs. They were joined by media colleagues from outlets such as SunStar, Palawan News, and MindaNews.
The Media for One Health project, supported by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the French Agricultural Research Centre for International Development (CIRAD), aims to enhance journalists’ skills in reporting on health issues. This includes producing stories that highlight the intersections between human health, animal welfare, and environmental sustainability.
“One Health,” a concept developed by the scientific community in the early 2000s, promotes a unified approach to health by identifying and mitigating risks to prevent future crises. The project aims to equip journalists with the knowledge to disseminate information and help prevent health crises.
The program will run for two years, with journalists from Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos participating alongside their Filipino counterparts.
