Armie Jarin-Bennett named EVP and Managing Editor of CNN Philippines

Jarin-Bennett is joining the local CNN station after almost two decades of experience with CNN International.

Following our report more than a week ago, it has now been made official.

Emmy award-winning journalist Armie Jarin-Bennett is officially on board as CNN Philippines’ newest executive vice president and managing editor, effective November 2, 2015.

“CNN Philippines is ready to move forward with Ms. Armie Jarin-Bennett at the helm,” said newly-installed officer-in-charge Jorge Sanagustin. “It is with pride that we bring back our kababayan and welcome her into our fold.”

Jarin-Bennett is joining the local CNN station after almost two decades of experience with CNN International, working her way up from production assistant to eventually becoming executive director of CNN Content Sales and Partnerships in Asia Pacific.

“I’m excited to work alongside the talented team of journalists at CNN Philippines,” Jarin-Bennett said in a statement. “This is a great opportunity for us to continue to strengthen CNN Philippines and become the trusted name in news in the country.”

PRESS RELEASE FROM CNN PHILIPPINES:
Emmy Award-winning international journalist Armie Jarin-Bennett has been appointed Executive Vice President, Managing Editor of CNN Philippines effective November 2, 2015.  The announcement was made by Officer-In-Charge Jorge Sanagustin, who takes over leadership of the network from the recently-retired president Reggie Galura.

“CNN Philippines is ready to move forward with Ms. Armie Jarin-Bennett at the helm. It is with pride that we bring back our kababayan and welcome her into our fold,” Sanagustin said.

“Armie’s wealth of experience on both the editorial and business side will be a huge asset to CNN Philippines. Armie has been an invaluable colleague to us at CNN and we are thrilled she will remain part of the extended CNN family. We wish her nothing but success as she embarks on this new and exciting opportunity.” Rani Raad, Chief Commercial Officer, CNN International said.

Jarin-Bennett takes up this new position following more than 18 years with CNN, working both in the United States and Hong Kong.

“I’m excited to work alongside the talented team of journalists at CNN Philippines. This is a great opportunity for us to continue to strengthen CNN Philippines and become the trusted name in news in the country,”Jarin-Bennett said. “I’m looking forward to coming home.”

Born and raised in Manila, Jarin-Bennett started her professional career as a radio newscaster for a local station, before moving to Atlanta in 1996 to intern at CNN’s main headquarters. She became a production assistant at Headline News in 1997 and quickly moved up to writer and producer positions. In 2000, she transferred to CNN International as a news producer, eventually becoming supervising producer in 2004, and executive producer in 2008, overseeing newsroom operations in Atlanta including daily news editorial direction as well as production work across international bureaus.

Jarin-Bennett joined CNN International Commercial in 2013 – as Executive Director of CNN Content Sales and Partnerships in Asia Pacific, working in coordination with Turner’s Networks & Content Distribution team in their respective markets. She was also tasked with managing all after-sales support initiatives for CNN affiliate newsrooms – including training and consulting services.

In 2012, she was one of the Emmy Award winners for Outstanding Live Coverage of a Current News Story – Long Format, for CNN’s coverage of the revolution in Egypt. The following year, Jarin-Bennett was also among CNN journalists nominated for an Emmy Award for coverage of Super Typhoon Haiyan.
