Patrick Paez to head News5
The veteran journalist takes over from Luchi Cruz-Valdes, who recently retired as chief.
Patrick Paez, a 14-year TV5 veteran, has been named officer-in-charge of its news division, News5. His appointment is effective today, October 1.
Paez, formerly the head of news for channels and content over at TV5’s sister company, Cignal TV, is succeeding Luchi Cruz-Valdes, who recently retired.
According to sources who spoke with Media Newser Philippines, Paez was the top choice of TV5 bosses to head the Kapatid news asset since they started looking for successor to Cruz-Valdes last year. He is said to be backed by TV5 chairman Manny Pangilinan, who has given him a strong vote of confidence.
Running News5 won’t be much of an adjustment for the veteran executive as he previously served as its news production head before moving to Cignal in 2019 to help oversee the launch of One News and One PH.
While News5 will certainly be his main focus, sources say his role will also involve fostering a more synergistic relationship between it and its sister news assets, One News, One PH and TrueFM.
In addition to working behind the scenes, Paez has also worked on-camera as host of Dokumentado and as documentarist for KAYA. Currently, he is one of the co-anchors of One News’ Storycon.
Prior to his move to TV5 in 2010, Paez worked at ABS-CBN, where he was best known for his work on The Correspondents.
He is married to TV host Daphne Osena, who since 2022 serves as the press briefer for Malacañang.
