Gretchen Ho wins Best Factual Presenter (Philippines) at 2025 AACA
Her national win means she will represent the country and compete alongside fellow regional winners from Australia, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan in December.
Cignal news anchor Gretchen Ho has been named the national winner for Best Factual Presenter at the 2025 Asian Academy Creative Awards, recognized for her work on One News’ morning program Morning Matters.
Ho was selected for her winning entry, which featured two standout segments: her on-site coverage from the Vatican on the late Pope Francis’ deteriorating health, and her sit-down interview with then-Senate President Chiz Escudero, where they discussed the now-archived impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte.
Her national win means she will represent the Philippines and compete alongside fellow regional winners — including Ray Martin (Australia), Amish Tripathi (India), Shery Ahn (Japan), Song Ji-hyo (Korea), Boey Leong (Malaysia), Kelly Latimer (Singapore), and Chuang Ling (Taiwan) — at the Grand Gala Final in Singapore happening in December.
“With the many events shaping our country and our world today, the responsibility of delivering the news has never been more important. Above all, truth must remain at the heart of that mission. Receiving this award is an immense honor. I am grateful to Cignal for allowing me to evolve in many ways as a broadcast journalist,” she said of the recognition.
A veteran of morning television — having co-hosted Umagang Kay Ganda, Gud Morning Kapatid and Frontline sa Umaga — Ho began solo-anchoring Morning Matters in February as part of One News’ daytime programming revamp. On the program, she not only delivers the top local headlines, but also conducts in-depth interviews with the country’s key newsmakers and political power players.
Among those who have appeared on the show so far are Senate President Vicente Sotto III, former PNP Chief Nicholas Torre III, Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson, Senator Rodante Marcoleta, and Congresswoman Leila de Lima, among others.
