One News is revamping its morning program with a refreshed format and a new all-female on-air team.

Starting Monday, June 1, Morning Matters will air in a split 1.5-hour format. It will initially run from 8:30 to 9:00AM, then return from 9:30 to 10:30AM. Sandwiched between the two blocks is the 30-minute business newscast Money Talks with Cathy Yang. which airs at 9AM.

Headlining the latest incarnation of the program will be the trio of Angela Lagunzad-Castro, Cesca Litton-Kalaw, and Pauline Verzosa, who officially take over from Gretchen Ho, who stepped down in January.

As part of the revamp, Lagunzad-Castro will sign off from News & Views, with its final broadcast airing tomorrow, May 29. Her co-anchor and real-life partner, Diego Castro, will move to the afternoon block to anchor its news bulletin.

Lagunzad-Castro will continue co-hosting TV5’s Gud Morning Kapatid while taking on her new role in Morning Matters. The Kapatid morning show ends at 8AM, allowing her enough time to transfer between programs.

Litton-Kalaw, who was last seen as co-anchor of Play by Play, brings extensive experience in sports journalism and live interviews. Kapatid executives see this, along with her friendly on-air presence, as being well-suited for the pace of morning television. She will initially focus on features and interviews, with a gradual transition into hard news, according to our sources.

Verzosa, currently interim host of Morning Matters, will bid adieu to The Big Story tomorrow night to focus on her new daytime assignment. She will join Lagunzad-Castro in handling the program’s news pieces, while also contributing to interviews and feature stories alongside Litton-Kalaw as the show adopts a lighter, more morning show format.
