Ed Lingao leads TV5’s returning ‘Frontline sa Umaga’

An earlier version of this story reported that Lingao would debut on Frontline sa Umaga this Monday, August 3. We have since confirmed with sources that it will instead take place next Monday, August 10, giving the team enough time to fully prepare for the broadcast.

TV5 is shaking up its morning programming once again, with Gud Morning Kapatid set to revert to its former title, Frontline sa Umaga, beginning Monday, August 3.

The change is part of the Kapatid Network’s effort to consolidate its three daily newscasts under the Frontline branding, giving its morning, evening and late-night news programs a more unified identity.

Leading the latest incarnation of Frontline sa Umaga is veteran journalist Ed Lingao, who is moving from his late-night assignment at Frontline Tonight to the morning shift.

Lingao will be joined by members of the existing Gud Morning Kapatid team, including Angela Lagunzad-Castro, Andrei Felix, Dimples Romana, Chiqui Roa-Puno, Maoui David and others.

The return of the Frontline sa Umaga title also signals TV5’s intention to steer its morning block toward a more hard news-oriented format. Under the Gud Morning Kapatid banner, the program carried a mix of news, interviews, lifestyle features and light morning conversations. With Lingao leading the charge, the revamped program is expected to place greater emphasis on the day’s major stories and developing news, while still keeping the lighthearted segments.

The move gives Lingao a prominent role in setting News5’s agenda at the start of the day. It also marks another significant overhaul for TV5’s morning program as the network continues to fine-tune its strategy in the highly competitive AM television race, where GMA-7’s Unang Hirit remains the undisputed leader.

Frontline sa Umaga was the original title of the Kapatid morning program before it was rebranded as Gud Morning Kapatid in 2023. It was originally anchored by former Kapatid anchorwoman Gretchen Ho, Jes Delos Santos and Justin Quirino, before undergoing a major revamp in 2024 that introduced a lighter format and an expanded on-air team.
