Ed Lingao blasts TV5 colleague Erwin Tulfo for falling for fake news

Veteran journalist Ed Lingao wrote a lengthy rebuttal on his Facebook account Sunday, pulling no punches on his TV5 colleague Erwin Tulfo, who had posted a video rant against him.

Lingao took to Facebook to call out Tulfo for believing that he was rallying for his suspension or dismissal in a recent Facebook post.

“First, I always advise everyone to read. That includes you, dear Idol.

Read the post please. You ranted that I asked KBP and TV5 to suspend or fire you? Huh? Which meme did you read that from? Another transcript?” he added.

Lingao also criticized Tulfo for falling for fake news after he went on a profanity-laced rampage against Senator Risa Hontiveros on his radio show, in reaction to a made-up story which claimed that the lady senator praised the Maute terror group for being the “epitome of courage and resilience.”

“You ranted that I justified/defended the senator’s arguments on how to define rebellion and invasion? Huh? Read again. Maiksi lang yan, kaya mo iyan siguro,” he wrote.

“You claimed that you corrected yourself midway through your program, and thus, you are not guilty of spreading fake news. And that the fact that you read the senator’s FB post should absolve you of your brilliant ninja moves,” Lingao added. “Uhm, hijo, naka up pa ang original video ng programa mo. Panoorin mo kaya ulit. You did not correct yourself. In fact, pinanindigan mo pa ang mali mo.

Responding to Tulfo’s accusation that he is a paid journalist, Lingao said: “Seriously hijo, do you want me to head in that direction?

Gusto mo ba talagang pagusapan iyan idol?” he added.

Lingao, who is the anchor of TV5’s late-night newscast Aksyon Tonite, also took the time to respond to Tulfo’s jab at his journalistic skills.

Any journ student should tell you that is not the same thing.

Lingao’s post, which went live Sunday morning, has so far racked up more than 9,000 likes and 2,000 shares. Read his entire post by clicking the link below.

In Senate custody, Bato Dela Rosa makes primetime news rounds

In separate interviews with ’24 Oras,’ ‘TV Patrol,’ and ‘Frontline Pilipinas,’ Dela Rosa explains why he returned to the Senate and responds to criticism that it has become his refuge from arrest.

On his second day under the protective custody of the Senate — now led by newly elected Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano — Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa made the rounds on three of the country’s top evening newscasts Tuesday.

Appearing live from the Senate, the embattled senator faced separate interviews with 24 Oras anchor Mel Tiangco, TV Patrol anchor Karen Davila, and the team over at Frontline Pilipinas, addressing questions about his sudden return to the upper chamber, the looming ICC arrest warrant against him, and the mounting criticism over his decision to seek refuge in the Senate.

Tiangco asked Dela Rosa directly about his unexpected reappearance at the Senate on Monday, following a six-month absence.

Tiangco asked.

“Well, ah, unang-una mayroon tayong natanggap na impormasyon galing sa Palasyo, na andiyan na daw yung warrant of arrest ko sa ICC. Kaya, alam mo na, my liberty is under threat kaya I have to do something with that situation,” Dela Rosa replied.

The International Criminal Court on Monday confirmed the authenticity of the warrant, saying in a statement that it is now for the Philippine authorities “to arrest and surrender” Dela Rosa to the tribunal.

Tiangco also asked the senator to respond to criticism that the Senate was effectively serving as his sanctuary from arrest.

“Well, they are entitled to their own opinion, kung ano gusto nilang sabihin laban sa Senado. Basta ‘yung Senado lang naman ginagampanan ang papel niya na mag-maintain ng institution as an independent, and to a certain extent, puwedeng proteksyunan ‘yung kanyang miyembro,” Dela Rosa answered.

Pressed on whether he would peacefully cooperate should authorities eventually move to enforce the warrant, Dela Rosa stopped short of giving a definitive answer.

Tiangco asked.

“Mahirap, mahirap, mahirap sagutin yung tanong mo, Mel, baka mamaya in the end sabihin mo sinungaling ako, hindi ko nagawa ‘yung sinabi ko ngayon kaya hintayin na lang natin,” he said.

Over at ABS-CBN, Dela Rosa faced similar questions in his interview with Karen Davila, as the TV Patrol anchor raised criticism circulating against him on social media.

They are entitled to their own opinion. Go ahead. Wala po akong… opinyon niyo po ‘yan,” Dela Rosa responded.

Davila followed up by pointing out that some critics were now labeling him a coward, especially in contrast to other senators who had voluntarily surrendered in the past, like Leila De Lima and Antonio Trillanes IV.

Later, Dela Rosa also appeared in an interview with reporter Mae Ann Los Baños, which was later turned over to Frontline Pilipinas anchors Julius Babao and Cheryl Cosim.

Asked if he had any regrets about reappearing at the Senate, Dela Rosa said he had none, stressing that it was his decision to return. He added, “Gusto mo malaman anong pinagsisihan ko ngayon? Ang pinagsisihan ko ngayon kung bakit ako masyadong matapat sa sa aking tungkulin from day 1 of my miltary and police service.

TV5 has officially announced the new timeslot for its long-running tabloid talk show Face to Face, now set to be hosted by veteran broadcast journalist Korina Sanchez-Roxas.

The show, rebranded as Face to Face: Harapan, will air at 4PM beginning November 11 as part of the Kapatid Network’s “Hapon Champion” lineup.

Sanchez-Roxas’s move into the tabloid talk genre has been anticipated for some time now, with TV5 host and now senatorial candidate Willie Revillame reportedly suggesting her as a replacement for actress Karla Estrada, who has been hosting the show since 2023.

Convincing her to do the show was relatively easy, as per our sources, given her strong relationship with TV5. Her long-running magazine show, Rated Korina, already airs on the network, and she also previously co-hosted the talk show TikTalks over at its sister station One PH.

With her new role, Sanchez will now be seen across several channels and in different timeslots, as she also hosts The Korina Sanchez Interviews on Net25 and serves as co-anchor of Bilyonaryo News Channel’s Agenda.

‘Gud Morning Kapatid’ introduces new team, moves to earlier timeslot

This signals a new chapter for TV5 as it ramps up its efforts to compete in the AM TV race.

TV5 is shaking up its morning programming with a refreshed format and a new team for Gud Morning Kapatid.

Starting Monday, October 21, GMK will move to an earlier timeslot at 5:30AM, signaling a new chapter for TV5 as it ramps up its efforts to compete in the AM TV race.

Joining the team is veteran broadcaster Ted Failon, along with his longtime radio partner DJ Chacha. The duo will join Dimples Romana, Chiqui Roa-Puno, Maoui David, Andrei Felix, and Ruth Cabal.

Despite his new morning commitment, Failon will continue to host his radio program on Radyo5 True FM with DJ Chacha. They are expected to lead the first half-hour of GMK before transitioning to radio at 6AM.

“Though morning naman ‘yung ginagawa namin ni Manong Ted, pero kasi on the side lang ‘yung TV for us eh. It’s really radio that’s our focus before. Ngayon ito talagang legit. TV na talaga siya.”

Along with the main hosts, the new GMK also includes TV5 reporter Hannibal Taleta, who will provide updates on traffic in the Metro, and newcomer Val Gadiaza, who will handle lifestyle segments for the show.

TV5’s decision to revamp GMK comes as it looks to challenge GMA-7’s Unang Hirit, the long-reigning champion in the coveted morning TV race. This will be the first time in years that UH will face a direct competitor in the same timeslot, with a bigger team.

Can it finally end UH’s long-standing winning streak? Will this finally work? Only time will tell.
