GMA Integrated News has made it official on Monday, naming Emil Sumangil as the permanent co-anchor of 24 Oras.

Sumangil, who has been a guest anchor for quite some time now, formally joins Mel Tiangco and Vicky Morales as the newscast’s third co-anchor.

With the announcement, Sumangil is anticipated to broaden his responsibilities as the “Kapuso Action Man,” stepping into the position once held by his predecessor, the late Mike Enriquez.

“Dagdag po sa pribilehiyong ito na makapaghatid ng balita at impormasyon ang igawad at ipagkatiwala ninyo sa akin ang taguring ‘Kapuso Action Man’ na tututok at tutugon naman sa mga problema at hinaing ng ating mga kababayan, responsibilidad na ginagampanan din noon ni Mike Enriquez,” he said.

Sumangil, who has been with GMA-7 for more than two decades now, also hosts the weekend public affairs program Resibo: Walang Lusot ang May Atraso.

“Gagawin po ang nararapat upang mapunan ang kanyang naiwan at maipagpatuloy ang paghahatid ng serbisyo sa mga Pilipino,” he said during a contract signing ceremony earlier today.

Sumangil started his career in TV news as a production assistant and researcher at ABS-CBN News. After that, he moved to GMA-7, where he worked as a segment producer and writer for various GMA Public Affairs programs.

Later, he got the chance to become a field reporter covering crime news. Besides reporting, Sumangil also served as anchor of GMA News TV’s Quick Response Team and also as co-host of Dapat Alam Mo!.
